Akua Serwaa Ansah is a creative individual who loves to build things from scratch. She has always been a beauty industry fanatic and has created makeup and skincare content for social media. Having battled with acne from her teens to her 20s, she was fond of researching on the best skincare trends, acne medication and remedies for achieving clear healthy skin. She, however, realised two major challenges with skincare in Ghana. Firstly, most women were focusing on covering up blemishes with makeup as opposed to caring for their natural skin. Secondly and even more alarming, skin bleaching had revolutionised with an influx of highly toxic bleaching products including whitening pills, injections, soaps and creams which could transform a dark complexion to near Caucasian white skin within a week. This pushed her to
put her vision in motion backed by a strong message to encourage her target market to resist self-hate and be confident in their natural skin tone. Akua Serwaa is a proud alumnus of a triple accredited French Business School, the Grenoble Graduate School of Business. She holds a higher degree in International Business with a unique focus on Strategic Management and Global Marketing. As a young girl growing up, I always aspired to be an entrepreneur. I remember as young as 10 years, I pleaded with my mum to ask someone to teach me how to prepare ice-cream on sticks. I learnt this trade and started making these ice-creams all by myself for sale in my vicinity. On Sundays, I closed early from children service, rushed home and packed my ice-creams to go sell by a church nearby. Coming home to count my little coins made me beam with smiles and thereafter, I knew I had the potential of becoming a successful entrepreneur in future. From then, I have always been doing bits and pieces of whatever I chance myself on, from trading in clothes, electronics and gadgets, hair products and baby products. These gave me some lessons and experience which have shaped me adequately to be able to set myself up now. In June 2020, Ajay Sajays Enterprise was born. This is the company I set up to be the pinnacle of my entire sojourn on the bit and pieces of trading I touched on. A company set up with the vision of becoming the one-stopcompany providing highly nutritious products, with our committed staff efficiently delivering top-notch customer-oriented service with the passion and zeal to make all our clients satisfied. Ajay Sajays is a company set up to create employment for the teeming youth. The business plays a greater part in empowering women in the entrepreneurial field of work. Ajay Sajays Enterprise provides wholesome and nutritious foods made with natural products for every individual. Our goal is always to see our customers happy with our products while we remain the name that comes to mind when our products are in need.
NAME: Rosemary Ama Dokua Sackey

TEL: 0548565285 / 0247563678
I am Rosemary Ama Dokua Sackey, a tailor’s daughter who expresses my passion for the creative arts through my brand, Dokua Nsoroma Products (DN Products). I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Theatre Arts from the University of Ghana, Legon, where my entrepreneurial journey started. Back on campus, I was privileged to have been blessed with a second-hand laptop in level 300. However, I couldn’t afford a laptop bag to keep the laptop in good shape. Prior to that, I challenged myself to make a fanciful strapless bag to the admiration of all who set their eyes on it. This brought in some orders and eventually led me to consider venturing into this new opportunity as a business after school. Now, DN Products is an arts & craft brand which deals in the manufacturing of affordable laptop bags, backpacks, branded
notebooks, wall frames and star-shaped lighting products all made with African fabric. Our theme, ‘A beautiful display of Ghana & Africa’ highlights our aim of showcasing authentic African craft and educating people on interesting facts about Ghana and Africa through printed slips attached to our products. As in every business, my entrepreneurial journey has had it highs and lows too. For sustenance, I always remind myself that there is absolutely nothing I cannot achieve if I set my mind to it and I work hard at it not forgetting my prayers. I am very thankful for the opportunity with AWE to revamp my business.

NAME: Fuseinatu Latif
EMAIL: [email protected]
TEL: 0244345621
Fuseinatu Latif is the founder of Ready Foods and currently works at MTN as a commercial reporting analyst. My expertise includes data analytics, business strategy and customer experience. The passion for setting up Ready Foods was heightened during the lockdown caused by the novel coronavirus, where tubers of yam bought in bulk were useless after just a short period of time. These tubers cannot be stored and when refrigerated, tasted flaccid after preparation. The original taste and texture were also lost in the process. I intend to make Africa’s perishable crops (yam) available all year round, which in turn will reduce the annual post-harvest loss suffered by farmers. This will greatly help with sustainability, job security and the global food chain. Ready Foods will provide fresh, clean and sliced tubers ready for frying or cooking while locking in the original taste and texture. This will help reduce cooking time by saving its customers preparation time while providing consistent pricing. The foods range will include yam, cassava, sweet potatoes and plantain. Our hallmark is to provide authentic, nutritious and convenient foods for the everyday person. Ready Foods, cooking made easy!.

We’ve all had moments when we splurge too hard and make all the wrong food choices. Trust me, I’ve been there before! I never really cared about what I ate years ago until I was diagnosed with obesity and hypercholesterolemia. My blood cholesterol was extremely high, which forced me to take cholesterol medications every day for a whole year. The constant swallowing of medications was a nightmare for me. I tried everything, from strenuous workouts to starvation diets, but to no avail. It was a vicious cycle that I couldn’t seem to break on my own. Knowledge gained from my undergraduate degree in Dietetics and masters degree in Public Health Nutrition saved my life. The quality, quantity, frequency and timing of foods I ate, played a major role in helping me manage my health condition. I did more research on the job, and I realized I could empower other people with the knowledge I acquired and help them prevent or manage their health conditions without having complications. Working with a few colleagues and family members on managing their health condition was the foundation for creating and starting this private practice, Nourish Me Daily. At Nourish Me Daily, we bring nutrition down to the level of the Ghanaian context and actively help individuals prevent and manage the aforementioned health conditions. The main objective of this business is to pursue positive nutritional change, which is centered on preventive care through dietary lifestyle modification while providing scientific, evidence-based dietetic care to individuals across all age groups.

My name is Patience Anam I come from the Upper East region. I am the fifth of six children. Growing up, my mother sold doughnuts to take care of us and see us through school. I had no option than to help her in her trade. I often sold some doughnuts before going to school. This affected my concentration in class such that at age 13, I dropped out of school, even before I could complete junior high school. I then went ahead to help my mum for a while till one day when I told my mum I was going to look for a job that will fetch me some money to pay for my brother’s school fees. My mother managed to get a job in her friend’s big provision shop. I worked with my mum’s friend for 7 years before I thought of establishing my own business and started by selling fruits on a table in my neighbourhood. I managed to save over a period of
time from my fruit business. I still had the urge to do something bigger than selling fruits. I had the idea of establishing a pub. I managed to do this with my savings and was able to employ a staff to help me. Currently, my pub has expanded. I now have four workers and have managed to add a restaurant to the pub, where I sell food in addition to drinks. I want to expand my business to other parts of Ghana or across the world.

I am Pearl Dzigbordi Sewavi, a student-teacher with a French background. Perla’s Grocery Delivery Services is a business I started two years ago with the mission of providing fresh foodstuffs to my customers at an affordable price and in their convenient time. I like food but I love healthy meals prepared with quality and fresh ingredients. I feel there is the need for every household to have the best foodstuffs for their meals. So I decided to fill the space in the
business market with grocery delivery. My services include the provision of fresh foodstuffs to households that have busy schedules and to also solve the stress of shopping and struggling to get fresh vegetables and fruits from the market. To establish a market niche for myself, Perla’s Grocery Delivery Services washes, cuts and chops vegetables on request, thereby making them
ready for use. My services are affordable and reliable to customers. I aim to become the biggest grocery store and delivery service in Ghana in the near future and also provide employment to the youth.
NAME: Shemimah Ishak Dapilaa

My name is Shemimah Dapilaa, a graduate of the Ghana Institute of Journalism with a degree in Communication Studies. While growing up I used to help my mum sell fresh hibiscus drink, some of which I used to take to school to sell to my friends. This was how I started my entrepreneurial journey. My colleagues in school patronized my drink so well that I made
enough profit to buy sweets and books. After my national service, I noticed they were a lot of fizzy drinks in the system which had health deficiencies. This rekindled my love for natural fruit juice, so I enrolled in a Juice & Cocktail training school, where I received a certificate upon completion. Event organizers needed a spice in their events and a variety of drinks available for guests, people needed to drink healthier to live longer hence the inception of DeShemz Bar & Cocktail, a mobile juice and cocktail bar service which can be setup anywhere, anytime, to serve healthy juice and cocktails. In our quest to expand and attract new markets, we are introducing our bottled natural fruit juice with no additives, which will be supplied to outlets, and on large quantity orders. This will make our products available for everyday consumption. We are looking forward to increasing sales by up to 50% – 60% in 2021, building customer trust, capturing new markets and acquiring machines to increase our production in the long term.

My name is Esther Ohemaa Yeboah, a Registry Officer at the Head Office of the National Health Insurance Authority. I am also the brain behind Aura Scents and more. I graduated from the University of Ghana in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Studies and Linguistics. I started Aura scents and more in December 2019 in response to the need to do something challenging that will in turn provide a second stream of income and also give me the satisfaction of knowing that I am making people’s lives better indirectly. Prior to starting my business, I wasn’t one to take risks and step out of my comfort zone. I therefore wanted to challenge myself to start the business knowing that even if I failed, at least I tried. The goal of my business is to help people build an aura of confidence by smelling good on a budget. I
do this by retailing and wholesaling authentic body mists, perfumes, body lotions, shower gels and related products at affordable prices. In addition to this, I share weekly tips on effective ways of using fragrances to get maximum benefits. I chose fragrances because, personally, I love smelling good and have experienced first-hand how it evokes positive, uplifting emotions and memories and also boosts my self-confidence. I want others to have the same experiences. In the next five years, I plan on shipping my products directly from outside the country instead of wholesaling from others who also ship from outside the country. This will make the prices of my products more affordable and will contribute to the growing economy of Ghana. I also plan on wholesaling on a large scale. In addition to this, I plan on setting up a shop where people can walk in, see what I have in stock and purchase. Currently, it’s an online business that I run from home.

I am Felicia Afi Hohome, the CEO of Nuko Juicy and a Co-founder of Afitutsi’s Catering Service. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with Dance from the University of Ghana. My journey as an entrepreneur began when I was in my final year at the university. It dawned on me that due to the unemployment rate the country is facing, since the educational system does not equip one with the expected entrepreneurial skills. With my background in Sociology, I decided to study my environment to understand the problems facing my society and how to provide solutions to these challenges. I then identified that, there are too many coloured flavoured drinks flooding the market, which have adverse effects on an individual after prolonged consumption. I decided to come out with an alternative for health-conscious people who want to live healthy. I realized a lot of people loved bissap, popularly known as sobolo, but
the conditions under which the beverage is prepared is highly questionable. I decided to repackage this drink for those who love it. I came up with Nuko Saps as the product. This product comes in two flavours for now and has been certified by the Food and Drugs Authority as safe for consumption. Aside the drinks, Nuko Juicy is introducing another product known as Nuko Hibiscus tea for tea lovers and those who want to maintain a healthy weight.

After having a previously successful career in Public Health Nutrition with a MPhil in Nutrition, I decided to reinvent myself and venture into starting my own business. I was driven by my internal motivation to achieve something for myself, which I could be proud of. With this, I was able to manage my time and spend quality time with my children. I started my fashion business after successfully combining the determination and focus from these two motivating factors and transferable skills from my previous career. I am currently the creator and lead of Bitsytrunk Children’s Wear and Bitsyprops, two brands under the registered business name Akobamoxie. I am determined to provide quality and authentic Ghanaian alternatives to children’s clothing in Ghana. By so doing, I will be contributing in my small way to boosting the Ghanaian economy. Both brands have been in operation for the past two years and have served about 100 clients. At Bitsyprops, I design and make outfits for newborns for all occasions, including baby photography, a fast-growing interest among the growing middle and upper classes in Ghana. Through these outfits, I work with parents and photographers to
create beautiful baby memories. I am committed to lifelong learning, and as reinvention comes with new skills, I enrolled in a fashion school in 2019 in order to be equipped to grow my business. During my leisure time, I enjoy watching thought-provoking movies based on true life stories and reading good books
